I originally wrote this song for my wife's third grade class. I was teaching them how to program and wanted them to see each step of their progress as a little seed being planted that would allow them to do bigger and bigger things. Then later, as I conceived of my music CD about Genesis (to be called "Immigrants: notes on Genesis) I recycled it to be about the garden.
SEEDS
Seeds grow, sometimes their slow
In the sun or under the snow
Give them some water, a little sunshine
Some grow in the ground, some grow in my mind
Seeds know what they need to know.
What color to be and what shape to grow
Ancient Knowledge preserved through time
Some grow in the ground, some grow in my mind
Seeds go whereever they go
Some on the wind others go with the flow
Don’t really know what they will find
Some land in the ground, some land in my mind
Seeds above and seeds below
Right and left, wherever you go
Seeds in front and seeds behind
Some grow in the ground, some grow in my mind
Some are wild some grow in a row
Some are plain and others for show
Pieces of life completely refined
Some grow in the ground, some grow in my mind
Some seeds are long and some seeds are round
They grow the stem up and grow the root down
How they should grow has been predesigned
Some grow in the ground some grow in my mind
Some seeds grow fast others are slow
Some grow high and others grow low
Seeds grow in the sunshine
Some grow in the ground, some grow in my mind
Seeds grow all of the time
Some grow in the ground, some grow in my mind _________________ Gary McCallister
